Gas inserts are gas stoves with glass fronts that fit only in existing fireplaces. These vent with a chimney liner to the chimney top, and have another liner next to it feeding the stove’s intake combustion air. A ‘co-linear adaptor’ is used to adapt this two way air movement using just one chimney cap.

The rough cost, including the gas line, stove set-up, adjustments, chimney liner, options, installation labor, plus over $150 in sales tax, average $4400 apiece. They are beautiful, and heat up to 2000 square feet at very high efficiencies. They also work as home emergency heating when the furnace fails during a power outage.
